5 minute timer
Tap Start for a 5 minute countdown with a chime at the end.
What 5 minutes are good for
Five minutes is the classic short break between Pomodoros: long enough to stand up and refill water, short enough that you don’t lose the thread of what you were doing.
- A standard Pomodoro short break
- Steeping tea or a soft-boiled egg
- A quick stretch or breathing exercise
- The "five-minute rule": start a dreaded task and allow yourself to stop when it rings
Working in cycles? The Pomodoro timer alternates focus blocks and breaks for you and tracks your tasks.
Questions
How do I set a 5 minute timer?
Press Start on this page. The 5 minute countdown begins straight away and chimes when it reaches zero. No settings needed.
Will it work if I switch tabs?
Yes. The timer stores the exact end time and reads the clock, so it is correct whenever you look. Browsers slow hidden tabs down, so the countdown in the tab title may update only about once a minute while you are elsewhere. The chime is scheduled on the audio clock and normally plays on time on desktop; a locked phone may hold it until you return.
Does the timer keep going if I close the page?
If you reopen this page before it ends, the countdown picks up where it should be, because the end time is saved in your browser. It cannot chime while the page is closed.
